Enrolling Your Child for 2023-24
How To Apply
To be eligible for the random admissions lottery held annually in March, your application must be completed and submitted by the deadline.
If our staff needs more information for your application, they will contact you using the information from your application. Please make sure that your application has your correct phone number and email address.
STEP 1: Submit an Application
For new students AND siblings of current students: Complete and submit the online application, which is available in English and Spanish.
- Only ONE application per child will be accepted. Multiple applications do not increase the chances of enrollment, and duplicate applications will be discarded.
- All students currently on the Wait List MUST re-apply for the upcoming school year.
STEP 2: Before the Lottery
Once the application period has closed, lottery notification phone calls will begin.
You will ONLY be notified IF spaces are available for your child’s grade level. If this is the case, you will be provided information to attend the lottery in March. Unfortunately, due to the large number of applications we receive, we are unable to respond to every applicant. If there are no spaces available for your child’s grade level, you will NOT be notified.
- If there are no spaces available for your child’s grade level, your child will be put into the wait list lottery to determine their placement on the wait list. Any applications received AFTER the deadline for the lottery are placed in the order in which they were received, behind those who applied by the deadline.
- Beginning March 17, 2022, you may log into your SchoolMint account to discover your child’s position on the Wait List.
Attendance at the lottery is not mandatory and has no effect on your child’s potential for admission.
STEP 3: After the Lottery
If your child was selected in the lottery:
You will receive an enrollment packet and will be guided by Foundation Academies staff regarding the next steps required to complete the enrollment process. All submission deadlines are noted in the enrollment packet. If you are unable to attend the lottery, Foundation Academies staff will contact you regarding the enrollment packet and process.
If your child was NOT selected in the lottery:
- Your child will be placed on the wait list in the order in which they were drawn in the lottery.
- Beginning March 17, 2022, you may log into your SchoolMint account to discover your child’s position on the Wait List.
STEP 3: Enrollment
Selection in the lottery does not automatically guarantee enrollment. To officially enroll, parents/guardians MUST submit the completed enrollment packet by the date listed on the letter and prior to the first day of school, or your child’s space may be forfeited to accommodate the next student on the Wait List.
Foundation Academies staff will assist regarding the required processes and documents required to finalize enrollment.

About Our Random Admissions Lottery Process
Because the number of applicants always exceeds the number of available spaces at Foundation Academies’ grades and schools, all student applications are placed into a random admissions lottery.
The random lottery process ensures that students are selected irrespective of academic ability, gender, race, religion, national origin, household income, or disability/special needs of the students or the parents/guardians. There are no costs or fees to apply.
Foundation Academies students can live anywhere in the State of New Jersey, however, Trenton residents get first priority for admission. If spaces remain after the admission of all eligible Trenton residents, non-resident applicants, also selected by lottery, may be admitted.
For siblings of current Foundation Academy students, a separate, sibling enrollment lottery is held. Siblings are given preference in the lottery, and so if space is available in the sibling’s requested grade, the sibling is automatically enrolled. However, if there are more sibling applicants than available spaces, siblings are entered into their own admissions lottery (separate from that of new students) to fill the available spaces. The remaining siblings are then entered into a lottery to determine their position on the wait list.
