FA Hosts First-Ever Open Mic Day for Mental Health Awareness Month in Collaboration with Investors Bank

On Wednesday, May 26, 2021, Foundation Academy Collegiate came together as a school community to host its first-ever Open Mic Day in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, sponsored by the Investors Bank Foundation. Seven students performed works of original poetry on topics ranging from their experiences with race in the United States to noticing the signs of mental health struggles.
“We want to encourage everyone to reach out whenever they feel that something is off with them or when they are facing different issues, to be able to find someone to talk to,” says Matthew Francis, Leader of Student Culture at Foundation Academy Collegiate, “but also to have the courage to speak up and fight the stigma against mental health.”
Open Mic Day was made possible by a generous donation from Investors Bank, which supported virtual creative writing and performing arts workshops throughout the 2020-2021 school year. Thank you to our generous donors for believing in our students and for believing in the power of arts education.
We are so proud of all of our students for having the courage to share their stories and helping to spread awareness about mental health. Check out the video linked below to see some of their inspiring performances!
