Friends of Foundation Academies Board Works to Build Sustainable and Equitable Support

Friends of Foundation Academies Knight Fund

The Friends of Foundation Academies is grateful for the hard work and dedication of our board and committees. Each member works tirelessly to support, enhance, and promote the work of Foundation Academies by raising funds and delivering services and partnerships that equitably serve our school community.

The Friends established the Knight Fund for alumni, currently enrolled in college or post-secondary institutions, to help with financial hardships that can hinder them from entering or persisting through college.

“Our board is working to build equitable and sustainable support for alumni that would also be scalable in the future,” said Kathleen Streicher, FA Director of Advancement and Executive Director of the Friends. “In 2020, the Friends of FA Board formed a Scholarship Committee to research and launch a new initiative called the Round Table Scholarship. Its purpose is to provide long-term targeted support to FA alumni while they are in school. Each year, four graduating seniors pursuing undergraduate degrees will earn Round Table scholarships of $10,000 each ($2,500/year) for four years they are enrolled. The goal is to grow the program over time.”

The Scholarship Committee, made up of Friends board members and other community leaders, skillfully launched the program this spring. They received and vetted scholarship applications and participated in live student interviews via Zoom.

“The process of narrowing down a large applicant pool was a challenging one,” said Anthony Klockenbrink, chair of the Scholarship Committee. “Especially when it was composed of so many highly-qualified candidates.”

The four recipients of the 2021 Round Table Scholarship will be announced at our Senior Signing Day on June 9, 2021, from 11 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
