Volunteer Appreciation Spotlight: Al-Lateef Farmer

Al-Lateef Farmer reads a book to Primary Students at one of our “Drop Everything and Read” events in May 2019.
Al-Lateef Farmer first came to visit Foundation Academies in March 2019 and a month later began volunteering with us. Since then, he has continued to volunteer in a number of ways, quickly becoming part of our school FAmily.
Mr. Farmer participates in our monthly “Drop Everything and Read” literacy events by reading to our Primary School scholars, he serves as an interviewer for our student ambassador program, and is now supporting our Intermediate School scholars by facilitating a writing and poetry club. In the future, Mr. Farmer hopes to expand his reach into our Middle School clubs as well.
Mr. Farmer grew up in Plainfield, NJ, and at two years old learned to read by reading the newspaper to his great grandfather. With an active imagination and a growing passion for reading and writing, he began writing stories around the age of six. Mr. Farmer went on to earn his BA in English from Kean University, and for more than 15 years has served as the Student Development Specialist at Mercer County Community College.
Thank you for your support and time, Mr. Farmer. We sincerely appreciate you!
